This record is one of great historic properties and let's us hear the voice of the greatest soprano of the 19th century, when you hear this you hear a voice that was heard for the first time in 1851 and she sang for President Buchannon in the 1850's and sang for some of the greatest composers and personalities and here in the new century we hear the voice that was heard by those over 150 years ago, isn't recorded sound amazing?

During WWII the government produced and distributed 78 RPM "Victory Discs," or V-Discs, to U.S. troops all over the world. The records were to be destroyed after the war but many of them survived. :) A lot of the V-Disc material was taken from radio programs like Command Performance; you can find out more in the book V-Discs: A History and Discography by Richard Sears. Any error or typo is mine. :) Since the gov't produced and distributed these records they are public domain but if...

This spirited recording by Caruso has been a delight to listeners for over 80 years. Over there, was the American call to arms and was sung in the largest cities to the tinniest hamlets throughout the country. The Yankee Doodle Dandy himself, George M. Cohan, wrote it. Caruso, who knew Cohan, loved the song. He recorded the song at the Victor studios in Camden, New Jersey in the summer of 1918. Caruso sang this song at Liberty Bond Rallies around the Country, and even at the Metropolitan Opera...

"Fiddlin' Frank Nelson" plays the traditional tune "Buck Creek Gal" in this recording dating from September of 1927. Thanks to archive.org reviewer Kip Rainey for pointing out that Fiddlin' Frank Nelson "is really the great Kentucky fiddler Doc Roberts. The guitar accompaniment is by Joe Booker."
